You Too Can Be a Part of the Giving Pledge

Earlier this week, an announcement was made that 40 billionaires had pledged to donate at least half of their families' wealth to charitable and philanthropic organizations and  causes during their lifetime or after their death.  The Giving Pledge includes the likes of Warren Buffet, Bill and Melinda Gates, Jon and Karen Huntsman and George Lucas, among others.  Its truly inspiring!

Not a billionaire yet?  Don't worry!  There are plenty of opportunities within our community for you to help out and give back.  There are countless organizations that could use your time, talents or resources.

Girls in Tech Boise has come across a couple in the last day alone:

The Idaho Botanical Garden and one of its generous members has created a challenge grant to raise bus money so schools can visit the Garden.  Over 8,000 area students visit the Garden each year and participate in the Youth Education Programs.

Any donations under $200 will be matched by the challenge grant donor and donations of $200 or more will be doubled.  A mere $20,000 will help 40  classes enjoy and experience the Idaho Botanical Garden.  Donations can be made via phone (342-8649), by mail or online at the Idaho Botanical Garden.  To donate online, select the 'make a donation' option, press Donate Now, navigate to the Education Programs and designate the donation for the bus fund.  In-person donations can be made at the Garden office Monday-Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.  Hurry!  the deadline is August 20th.

The Women and Children Alliance is in need of housewares for families starting over.  If you can help, drop items by their store (720 W. Washington St., Boise).

Take a lesson from your friendly billionaire and give today!
