I recently had the great opportunity to attend a leadership development class at IBM entitled “Impact and Influence for Women” and in a word: WOW. If only I had known some of the material presented 30 years ago. This class received The Global Award from the OpportunityNow organization (
http://www.opportunitynow.org.uk/). Opportunity Now is a membership organization for employers who are committed to creating an inclusive workplace for women. With IBM’s permission I’d like to share some of the learning from this class in a series of blog posts to Girls in Tech-Boise.
Over this series I plan on sharing with you the following topics:
- Personal Goal Setting & Creating a Personal Brand
- Building Unconscious Competence and being intentional
- Getting and giving feedback and “shooting the crow”
- A model for sources of power and influence
- Words, Music, Dance: keeping your communication congruent
- The ‘Hamburger’ Model of Relationship Dynamics and Relationship Contracting
- Push/ Pull influencing and the 9 Influence Strategies
- Creating a personal Elevator Speech and the art of Bragging
- Networking with Intent and Ethical Influencing
- Active Listening & Bargaining with Integrity or why Nice Girls Don’t Ask
That’s a whole lot to cover so stay tuned! I hope this will be helpful for all of us.
