    Career Resources

    Posted on: 8/20/2009 8:52:21 PM | Comments (2)

Did you know that Girls in Tech Boise can provide you with one on one career advice and guidance?  Would you like someone to review your resume and provide tips and feedback?  Are you interested in learning new skills or obtaining technical certifications?  Would you like a career advisor to help guide you through the various career choices in technology?  Girls in Tech Boise would love to help!

Just this week, the group provided technical career advice to a woman in technology looking to upgrade her technical skills and market her skills in the current economy.  This member had a great resume already, years of experience in the technology field, and was looking for help in determining what areas she might want to focus on in learning and upgrading her technical expertise after being out of the workforce for a few years.  The Girls in Tech Boise team met with her, reviewed her resume, and provided her with some actionable goals for pursuing her future career aspirations.

We've got a great group of women specializing in diverse areas within technology.  We'd love to be a resource to you as you look to enhance your career in technology.  If we don't have the answers to your questions, we'll ask around and reach out to other groups in the area to get you the information you seek.  We're here for you and Girls in Tech Boise is all about providing career resources to its members.

If you'd like to schedule a career session with a Girls in Tech member, please fill out our contact us form and let us know how we can help.  We'll contact you and connect you with a career advisor.

    Eat, Drink, Share

Pair Restaurant's slogan is "Eat, Drink, Share" and at the Happy Hour Mixer event last night, that is exactly what the Boise women of technology did!

Last night was a fantastic opportunity to get some great time chatting and enjoying the company of women who are involved with and passionate about technology. We had such a diverse group of girls in attendance.

We sat around a table of fine cheese and cocktails with a Project Manager, Patent Attorney, Software Engineer, Business Intelligence Guru, "Jill-of-all-trades" IT admin, Mechanical Engineer, Solution Architect, Real Estate Agent/Architect, Director of Business Development, and VP of Research & Evaluation.

There was no shortage of talent, technical passion, and collaboration at the event last night. I think I can speak for the group when I say that each of us got the opportunity to meet and be inspired by other women in technology.

If you weren't able to make our event, please join us for our next meeting! We will be having a "Life Coaching Workshop" on September 9th at 7:00pm. It should be a great and informative event.

    Digigirlz for Boise?

    Posted on: 8/9/2009 9:43:48 PM | Comments (0)

Microsoft recently held its Digigirlz High Tech Camp in Washington. The Washington Times reported on this event:

There was excitement and a buzz of productivity at Microsoft's DigiGirlz High Tech Camp as the high schoolers collaborated with one another and proudly displayed the video games they designed...

More of these camps are making girls their target audience, as research shows girls tend to stray away from technology-related activities by the time they are teenagers.

The DigiGirlz High Tech Camp works to dispel stereotypes of the high-tech industry. Programs like these provide opportunities to give young people a chance to experience, firsthand, what it is like to develop cutting-edge technology. During the camp, the girls listen to executive speakers, participate in technology tours and demonstrations, network, and learn with hands-on experience in workshops.

One of the goals of the Girls in Tech Boise group is to not only foster women in technology, but also to mentor up and coming technologists.  I was disappointed to see that Boise was not listed on the many DigiGirlz High Tech camp locations but believe that we can work to create similar programs and workshops here in the Treasure Valley.

As we plan our events for the remainder of 2009, let's discuss potentially hosting Boise's very own Girls in Tech day camp where we too can mentor teens and encourage them to explore fields in technology.  If you are interested in becoming involved in this effort please contact us
