Its Summertime and the Calendaring Just Got Easier

    Posted on: 6/30/2010 4:19:57 PM | Comments (0)

Grab your calendars and please make note of a VERY important change to monthly Girls in Tech Boise meetings - we are moving to the lunch hour on the 1st Wednesday of the month

Our next meeting will be on August 7th (Wednesday) from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.  There is no meeting in July as we are still recuperating/celebrating our first anniversary - just kidding!  Seriously, the June and July meetings were combined for the annual celebration (yes, you read that right....ANNUAL).

You have a whole month to get ready for the next meeting - in August at noon (sometimes, repetition is a good thing as Martha Stewart says).

We also want to let you know that our friends at TechBoise are also on the move.  Their monthly meetings will take place the 1st Wednesday of the month in our old slot (5:30 - 7:00 pm).

This is a great opportunity to tech-out on the 1st Wednesday of each month.  You have 28, 30, or 31 days (depending on the month) to work on the inspiration you receive at the Girls in Tech Boise and Tech Boise monthly meetings.  How cool is that?

So, once more for the good of the order....its tech all day and night on the 1st Wednesday of the month.  Girls in Tech Boise kicks off its Wednesday lunch hour meetings August 7th at 12 noon and TechBoise bookends the night at 5:30 pm.

And no July meeting.  We do love to see you, but we want you to get out there and enjoy the heat and Summer and all that it has to offer and the heat....

    Stay cool, Girls!

    Hip2Save, Your Next Employer?

    Posted on: 6/30/2010 3:45:50 PM | Comments (0)

The word on the street is that Hip2Save is hiring!  Check out this woman-owned business that is centered on coupon-saving and deal-making.  Its exploding!

Are you a web developer?  Programmer?  Public relations expert?  If you happen to have skills in the 3 areas,  run, don't walk to your computer and send your resume to susanbjacobus(at)yahoo.com.

They are especially interested in experience with Wordpress, e-commerce and SEO (in fact, those items are requirements).  A background in public relations and advertising is a plus.

The salary will be determined based on a person's qualifications and the going market rate.

At the very least, Girls in Tech Boise is thrilled to see another woman owned business grow.  Congratulations!  Who knows, maybe one of our members has the right skills and talent to join Hip2Save

Be sure and visit the blog, there's a lot of great information on the site to help you save money - who doesn't like that?

    Membership DOES Have Its Privileges

    Posted on: 6/29/2010 5:22:42 PM | Comments (0)

No, Girls in Tech Boise does not directly aspire to be American Express.  At least, not outright.  We like the mantra and the exclusivity factor of belonging.  At Girls in Tech Boise, we are all about community and fostering that spirit of community - helping women of all ages navigate the ins and outs of the tech world and have fun doing it.  (Please note:  we could just as easily have inserted math, engineering, or science instead of tech.  We are using tech as a catch-all and include users, developers, lovers, sometimes haters of all things techie in that idea of 'tech world' too).

    But, we digress.....

Several people have as asked us about becoming members of Girls in Tech Boise following THE anniversary party of the year celebrating the Boise tech scene.  We are thrilled and would love to have you join us.

Membership is free.  The privileges?  Too numerous to list - but you become a member of a small (but growing) community of very talented and supportive women in the Boise Valley.  Meetings are held once a month and give members the opportunity to catch up, network, share experiences, refer work projects, etc.  Along the way, new friendships develop and you get the opportunity to learn from and with each other.  Plus, you get to have fun!  What's not to love?

To become a member, simply complete the online membership form.  Its quick, painless and most of all FREE!

This also helps ensure that we have correct contact information for keeping you up to date on all the happenings of Girls in Tech Boise.  We don't sell or use any of the information for commercial means.  We let you know of opportunities, news, and sometimes, we might just say hi (cuz we're that kind of group).

Don't wait another second - complete your online membership form today and join us.  We are waiting......

    Calling All Creatives

    Posted on: 6/29/2010 12:57:15 PM | Comments (0)

The Boise Cutters have issued a call to all you creative types out there for a new logo.  They are an original, unique and creative group and realized that the time had come for their logo to step it up.

Girls in Tech Boise, who among you wants to help?  We know there are some fabuosly creative types out there that might have some time to share their talents with this organization.  This is a labor of love, girls!  If you have the time and the talent (and we suppose the interest) to help the Boise Cutters out, they have promised 'copious amounts of love and credit' plus they promise you will 'feel good inside knowing your're strengthening a local org that digs you'.  What more could you ask for?

Well, since you asked, they are going to have prizes......

The deadline is July 26th (email to BoiseCutters(at)gmail.com).  The entries will be posted to a FLICKR gallery and then you can get all your friends, family members - heck, even your enemies - to vote for your design.  Ok, not really, we are kidding!  The winner will be unveiled and implemented on their website and otrher materials by August 1st.

What a great way to empower and involve the community Boise Cutters!

More information from the Boise Cutter folks is listed below:

    'Parameters:

    Style-

There are really just a few parameters that we thought would be good to follow.  We’ve established the straight razor as our primary brand element so we thought it important to keep that as a part of the design.  Incorporating elements of film (time-code slate, film strip, etc.) would be great too.  It'd be nice to have a graphic designed as well as lettering that can be used for "Boise Cutters".  Other than that, I think it should be really pretty open.  Some interpretations may be highly stylized and some very core. Think powerful, clean, & clever.'

And remember, there's love and kudos in it for you AND prizes.

    Ready, set, create!

    Oh What a Night!

    Posted on: 6/25/2010 8:48:29 AM | Comments (1)

Wow, Boise!  Thanks for last night.  If you chose not to be square and join Girls in Tech Boise to celebrate our one year anniversary, we want you to know that you missed out.  Don't worry, pictures will be posted very soon and you'll be able to relive the fun (or see what you missed).

Fantastic venue (and many of you discovered the little jewel of a terrace/patio at the Owyhee Plaza).

Great food and flowing beverages (which were also pretty great).

Weather that cooperated, for the most part (what's a few errant balloons anyway, but a good time?).

Superb entertainment.  (This particular Girl in Tech Boise was not familiar with Finn Riggins.  She has now repented.  They put on a fantastic show.  Be sure to catch them at the Boise Rec Festival this weekend.  It'll be well worth your time).  Girls in Tech Boise especially loved 'our song' complete with binary code (yes, we need to do a little research and learn the name of that tune - it made the night.)  Thank you Finn Riggins!!!!!  And a huge thanks to @KellyAMadison for sponsoring them.

Amazing sponsors.  We can't say enough wonderful things about our sponsors (Solution Pro, Kelly A Madison and The IT Girl).  Please get to know them!  We know you'll love them as much as we do.  We'll even save you the trouble of finding them on Twitter (we are techie, you know):

    Solution Pro - @datacentergirl

    Kelly A. Madison - @KellyAMadison

    The IT Girl - @TheInfoTechGirl

You.  Whether you knew what you were showing up to celebrate or not, we were thrilled that you set aside a few minutes in your day to join us.  We had a lot of fabulous conversations and made new friends.  You cemented the fun in Girls in Tech Boise - in fact, we had such a blast that we are going to do it again very soon.  Girls in Tech Boise decided we ACTUALLY liked having you boys there too!  We need more of this kind of activity so we'll lead the charge.

And for those few guys that sported our Girls in Tech Boise pink t-shirts - we LOVE you!

Thanks again.  On to year 2!!!!

    Hello Summer!

    Posted on: 6/22/2010 6:21:33 AM | Comments (0)

    Finally!

We've been waiting for Summer for so long, it seems.  Sure, the mild Spring and rain was nice, but we know everyone is ready for some nice long sunny days.

Now that its Summer, what are you going to do?  This week, we hope you've marked your calendars and are joining us on the Patio at the Owyhee Plaza for our one year anniversary at Girls in Tech Boise.  We are thrilled to see that so many of you have agreed to join us to mark the occasion.  What are the rest of you waiting for?

If you have wanted to learn more about the local tech scene or meet any of the movers and shakers in said scene, here's your chance.  Our friends at Kickstand, TechBoise, Jelly Boise, RadioBoise, Ignite BoiseStartup Weekend Idaho (are you seeing a theme?) will be there.  In our excitement for Thursday, we might have left some groups out.  If so, we apologize.  Let us know and we'll give you a shout out too.  There is much to celebrate in our fair Valley.

Girls in Tech Boise also is very excited to welcome Finn Riggins to the party.  What better way to celebrate Summer and the local tech scene - all in one night?  Finn Riggins has played all over the map since releasing A Soldier, A Saint, An Ocean Explorer (their debut album in November of 2007).  These road warriors are have a fresh take on NW indie rock and are helping push and promote Idaho on the national independent music scene.  Catch them Thursday night and then Sunday, June 26th at the Boise Rec Fest

A huge thanks to Kelly A. Madison for helping out with the arrangements and for the generous sponsorship!  Are you following her yet?  She's @KellyAMadison on Twitter.

    See you there!
